Buses tend to be the cheapest and quickest way to Penang. When traveling by air the trip may be comfortable and fast but you might find dealing with the airports more trouble that it’s worth. The airports are located about an hour outside Kuala Lumpur, so plan accordingly time wise. The trains are also a good choice for transit to Penang and offer large sleeper cars with AC. However, the trains do not take you directly into the city; they must stop at Butterworth and then you must take a ferry to get to Penang.
